FROM THE LABEL: "THE CELEBRATED OATMEAL STOUT. an opaque, wonderfully silky and smooth textured ale with a complex, medium dry palate and bittersweet finish. Celebrated Oatmeal Stout is a style benchmark revived by Samuel Smith's and the inspiration for hundreds of commercial oatmeal stouts. Samuel Smith's brews at a small, traditional british brewery, the oldest brewery in Yorkshire. Product of England."

FROM THE MOUTH: OATMEAL STOUT: Beautiful smooth mild stout.I am always impressed with Samuel Smith Brewery. Note: Anna Norquist also had a swig and her comment was, "tastes like A1 sauce or soy sauce. OK, now that she suggested that I am thinking I taste it too, I don't but I can sort of smell it so perhaps this would be  good beer to have with a steak! A

EAST-WEST KOLSCH

May 27, 2012
EAST-WEST KOLSCH
12 FL.OZ., 5.01% ABV (not on label)
Brewed by the Boston Beer Company, Boston, MA
+

FROM THE LABEL:" Our version of the traditional German Kolsch* style is fragrant and complex, the Alsation hop we chose imparts a subtle citrus note, Jasmine Sambac, a mighty blooming southeast Asian flower adds a delicate floral aroma and a flavor to this layered and refreshing brew. Cheers! A Kolsch style beer, aged with south east Asian jasmine Sambac Flowers."

*Kölsch (also spelled Koelsch) is a local beer specialty that is brewed in Cologne, Germany. It is a clear beer with a bright, straw-yellow hue, and has a prominent, but not extreme, hoppiness. It is less bitter than the standard German pale lager.

FROM THE MOUTH: KOLSCH: This has a nice aroma- sweet and jasmine. It's light tasting lager that is crisp and thin with a mild floral taste, not as many hop notes as I expected, a Kolsch should have more of a hop presence and I can't taste that here.  Have not had a true Kolsch so I can't say whether it stands up to it. But this is a great summer beer, easy to drink. A-

BELGIAN SESSION
12 FL. OZ., 4.25% ABV( not on label)
Brewed by Boston Beer Company, Boston MA
+++

FROM THE LABEL: " A crisp refreshing version of a traditional Belgian beer, fruity, slightly spicy flavors from the Belgian yeast are balanced by toffee and caramel notes from our blend of malts. The hops provide a citrus character that rounds out this enjoyable brew. Cheers! Product of USA."

FROM THE MOUTH:BELGIAN PALE ALE Lots of 'spicy' which makes me think of the holidays- orange cloves. I wish I could taste the toffee and caramel they mention because that would be a nice blend against the hops and clove. I think I am tasting the bisquity yeast and a banana???? A bit overpowering on the cloves- so you have to like cloves- thats why it makes me think of pumpkin pie and the holdidays. Goes down well. FROM THE LABEL: "ginger, honey, wheat. Malt beverage brewed and flavored w/ honey & ginger."

FROM THE MOUTH:  HEFERWEIZEN: I can smell the ginger and honey and definitely taste them, smooth transition with lots of flavor.  It is uncomnonly flat- check out the lack of foam- I mean flat. The taste is not flat but it doesn't have any carbonation? If you are a fan of ginger  THIS is your beer - and ginger is good for your stomach. Also a good beer if you are like a sweet honey malt taste. I give it a high five and yes I would have it again. 12 FL. OZ., O.G. 13 P
Brewed and Bottled by Oaken Barrel Brewing Co. Greenwood, Indiana
+++1/2

FROM THE LABEL: "Hoosier- Style Red Ale. Fresh, local, handcrafted."

FROM THE MOUTH:RED ALE: First we have to talk about this O.G. and P? O.G. stands for Original Gravity -Definition: OG - Original gravity is a measure of the fermentable and unfermentable substances in the wort before fermentation. OG gives the brewer an idea of the potential alcoholic strength of the final product. After fermentation when OG is mathematically compared to FG, Final Gravity, the exact alcoholic strength can be determined. Cool, but they didnt' give the FG number? The P stands for color. check out this web site if you are interested- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer_measurementNow, onto the beer itself. First swig was a surprise because it played like an ale/lager than it got complex with no lager left..weird but good weird. It has plenty of  fruity flavor and piney hoppiness.. it starts a bit on the sweet side, with caramel notes, but quickly a noticeable hoppy bite comes along ..and is that pepper? This is a solid amber; will not blow any socks off, but that is not what the style is about. GO HOOSIERS! Will certainly have this one again. A

Brewed and Bottled by Bear Republic Brewing Co. INC, Healdsburg Cloverdale, CA
+++1/2

FROM THE LABEL: " Red Rocket Ale is a basterdized Scottish style red ale packed with distinctive flavors and an aggressive hop character rivaled by none. This unfiltered, bottle- conditioned amber colored ale, breaks all style molds. Brew Master notes: Keep refrigerated, beer is perishable, real ale is alive, yeast is good, serve at 45 -50 degrees. Sonoma County Ales"

FROM THE MOUTH: ALE:I have already had most of the beer and am feeling a whole lot better now then when I was staring at the label reading the most fantastic story of a beer "breaking all style molds." I have decided all these are written late at night after more than a few tastings and they have watched the movie 300 and feel like Spartan warriors. On to the beer which tastes remarkable delicious as I take the last sip. It has a heavy brown sugar smell and it is quite malty but oh the sting of hops comes forward and will not be denied. Oh no, I am feeling like a Spartan Warrior and feel like breaking something...but it is not stylish so I will concede and go listen to Bach and calm down. A+

FROM THE LABEL: "NEW BELGIUM= Employee owners would love to have you stop by the brewery! 500 Linden, Fort Collins, CO 80524 ( 888) NBB-4044. A beauty of a Belgium dubbel with six different malts and an authentic Belgium yeast strain thats happiest being served in a New Belgium globe glass."

FROM THE MOUTH: BELGIAN DUBBEL: This was a beer that started with a smell ( SMELL_ STRONG) so I had to go with it- what the heck was that....clove... banana....plums....apple and brown sugar...it took awhile and I had to put the beer back in the fridge so it wouldn't get warm. Next the taste... there is THAT taste again that I have found ....rude,  but I decided to go with it because it is not overwhelming in this beer. Someone told me it was the yeast strain- the UNIBROUE beers have it and the AMARCORD. I found this very complex due to the overwhelming variety of sweet taste mixed with the heavy cloves which may be what I am thinking is the yeast? I probably won't have this again but for those who like the yeast strain of UNIBROUE and AMARCORD I think you will really like this beer. no rating since i can't be impartial

FROM THE MOUTH : EXPERIMENTAL INDIA  PALE ALE: Check out the interview by Amos Amarillo of Deschutes Brewmaster Larry Sidor for a roller coaster ride with some hop heads-
This is an intense beer- full flavored and a slap in the face- and not a gloved slap- a big damp bare palm stinging sort of slap that leaves a welt of hops, citrus hops, malt and hops. FROM THE LABEL: "Product of USA. Certified with whole Hop goodness from the heart of the redwoods."

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION;This beer was originally brewed for a famous Reggae festival that happens each year here in Humboldt County. A malty bitter American Amber style ale. This mahogany hued ale brings an intense spectrum of hop flavors from the spicy aromatic to lingering bitter, all underscored by a full- bodied caramel richness. Try this brew with a little Jamaican Jerked Chicken.

FROM THE MOUTH: RED ALE: This would indeed by splendid with some Jamaican Jerked Chicken but since we don't have any of that....let's talk about the beer. First sip is intense with hops but mellows out full steam ahead with some citrus..nice transition because it almost was heading towards the rapids. I sound like a label! Not for the hop timid but it is balanced well with the malt so don't be shy. A
