FROM THE MOUTH: AMERICAN IPA:Taste follows nose ( CAUTION: Don't try this after you have had a Pint- beer ends up on your nose- I speak from experience):  a  nice combination of floral and piney hops- perhaps some biscuity ( I just like saying that) malt. Ends with a nice shark, I mean sharp, hoppy bite. This beer is  EVERTHING you look for in a Northwest style IPA. Mouthfeel is soft and creamy with a crisp, refreshing finish. Overall a very nice full tasting beer that I will KEEP in my fridge. This is my first from Elysian Brewery- I hope there are more! A+

FROM THE LABEL: "Wheat Ale brewed with real cherrries and natural flavors added. Celebrating a centuries old American tradition of brewing with native ingredients, Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat combines Michigan cherries with a generous portion of wheat malt to produce a bright, lively ale with a crisp finish. Cheers!"

FROM THE MOUTH: FRUIT/VEGETABLE BEER: A surprisingly good beer, very enjoyable but you must love Bing cherries. Nice big mouthful of Bing- I feel like I am drinking a wheat beer with a cherry coke chaser. I thought I would be disappointed- fake taste and natural flavors added bad- but this is crisp and full. A nice tang of.. oh..so..mild.. hops at the end to let you know it is a beer. A

PRISMATIC HELLES BELLES

126 BOTTLES OF BEER ON THE WALL

August 28, 2012 (Tuesday)
PRISMATIC HELLES BELLES
12 FL. OZ., 5.1% ALC. BY VOL.
Brewed and Bottled by Ninkasi Brewing Co., Eugene, Oregon

FROM THE LABEL: " Helles Belles is a traditional German-style lager brewed with premium pilsner malt and bittered with Hallertau hops. Originally brewed for the Oregon Brewers Festival, Helles ( meaning light) is straw yellow in color, bright and crisp. So for those about to rock, Ninkasi proudly presents Helles Belles. German Style Helles Lager.

The ancient Sumerians worshipped the beer they made, and praised the Goddess Nikasi for the miracle of fermentation. Beer is a staple of civilization. WORSHIP THE GODDESS."

FROM THE MOUTH:   MUNICH HELLES LAGER: Not certain what makes a Helles Lager different than any other lager? I googled it but it was boring so I moved on. I have been apprehensive to pull a lager from the fridge after having so many really tasty beers  (IPA, Porters) lately but this one did not disapppoint. It has a nice full carbonation with a smooth bisquit malt, light hops ( a nice German bittering hop that contributes to the smooth bitterness and nice aroma), all combined with a hint of citrus.   Finishes a bit a dry and ..tangy but overall a very nice beer. I will definitely pull this from the fridge again. For those who mostly drink and like lagers..give this a whirl. A

TOTAL DOMINATION IPA

August 27, 2012 (Monday)
TOTAL DOMINATION IPA
TONIGHT IS FOR ANNA- YOU TOTALLY DOMINATE!!!
12 FLUID OUNCES., 6.7 ALC % BY VOL
Brewed and Bottled by Ninkasi Brewing Company, Eugene, Oregon
+++

FROM THE LABEL: " A Hoppy, Floral and exceptionally Balanced Northwest IPA. Multiple hops collide in balanced perfection, dominating the senses, achieving total satisfaction. From the Pacific Northwest birthplace of the modern IPA, comes a beer whose name says it all.

The ancient Sumerians worshipped the beer they made, and praised the Goddess Nikasi for the miracle of fermentation. Beer is a staple of civilization. WORSHIP THE GODDESS."

FROM THE MOUTH: AMERICAN IPA: Bought this beer for the name; they need some help with their labels! Interesting beer- starts out fruity citrus (apricotish) then stops point blank and turns into bitter, slight (very slight)  coriander hop, ends with a wipe out your mouth dry tang.....like what foil does to your teeth when it hits one of your metal fillings. Feels a bit disjointed. I thought the hops were nice and bitter but nowhere near "total domination." I like the story on the label but the beer falls short of the miracle. B

FROM THE STORE: Huckleberry's in Spokane WA ( Pretty cool place- has over 500 beers on sale in their beer display.- I call it a beer art gallery. You can buy them individually-sweet.)

FOR ANNA:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us.
It is not just in some; it is in everyone.

And, as we let our own light shine, we consciously give
other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.

STEELHEAD PORTER

128 BOTTLES OF BEER ON THE WALL

STEELHEAD PORTER
TWELVE (12) FLUID OUNCES., 6.5% ALCOHOL BY VOLUME
Brewed and Bottled by Mad River Brewing Company, Blue Lake, CA
++

FROM THE LABEL: "Product of Humboldt County from the heart of the Redwoods. Made in the USA."

FROM THE MOUTH:ENGLISH PORTER:  Pours a beautiful deep dark chocolate - little carbonation on pour but gives a nice carbonation in the mouth. I would not call this a mild smooth porter- more of an in your face- slap you with flavor- now I am awake and listening porter. Heavy musty smokey peat up front with deep roasted coffee/chocolate/toffee malts to follow. Ends with some nice hop coffee bitterness. This beer feels great in the mouth..chewy, as in I feel like I am having a meal. I have had better porters so I will pass on this one next time, but it was a decent beer for the blog. B+

ORIGINAL GRAVITY (O.G.) = 15.46, IBU = 79, APPEARANCE = BROWN
Brewed and Bottled by : Rhinelander Brewing Co. LLC. Monroe, WI 53566

FROM THE LABEL: "Boatswain (bo'sun) beers are unique brews made in small batches. Our American IPA has a sweet maltiness from the roasted barley and crisp bitterness from the high hop level."

FROM THE MOUTH: AMERICAN IPA: New favorite IPA, although it is more of an American strong ale.  I would drink this every night ** Danger Danger ** because it goes down way too smoothly. It pours out beautifully - medium carbonation, much more rich, deep caramel malt and yeast than hop resin but it is there with a bite of spice at the end. This is a fullbodied beer with a good/great mouthfeel but without all the fanfare for the tongue and throat.  Very drinkable chugger and only $2.29 at Trader Joe's. YES! A+

FROM THE LABEL" Washington beer. Fermenting change in taste since 1994."

FROM THE MOUTH: AMERICAN IPA: Sigh, I really wanted to love this beer because it is Friday night and well, this is a lot of beer ...and it's Friday night...sigh.  It has some nice citrus start and a good solid malt blend, good bit of carbonation, which I like, but it has a nasty astringent aftertaste that dries out your tongue and then glues itself to the back of your throat and ..wait.... is that soap I taste now? FROM THE LABEL: "Trois Pistoles is a remarkably mellow dark ale. To complement its aroma of ripe fruit, it has a pleasant aftertaste that lingers on like an old port wine. Bottle refermentation."

FROM THE MOUTH: BELGIAN STRONG DARK ALE: Wicked, wicked, wicked good. This reminds me very much of a old port wine- heavy on the spicy cherry cordial and thick with.....deep dark leather couch comfortable.. by the warm fire cozy...and pour me another beer sweetheart. August 22, 2012 (Wednesday)
MAREDSOUS BRUNE 8 BRUIN
11.2 FL.OZ., 8% ALC. BY VOL.
Brewed and Bottled by Duvel Moortgat, Puurs Belgium

FROM THE LABEL: " Maredsous Brune is a high fermentation abbey beer, brewed in accordance with the Benedictine tradition of the community of Maredsous Abbey. The beer is refermented in the bottle during the two- month ageing period. Maredsous Brune should ideally be served at a temperature of 42-30' F. Contains barley wheat. Biere Belge d' Abbaye- Belfisch Abdijbier."

FROM THE MOUTH: DUBBEL:  I am not sure if it is because of the cool bottle and the elegant (wine like)  label but I am especially enjoying this beer. First off  the aroma is wonderful - sweet and full, second it looks perfect in a glass. Taste is a sweet malt, with a very thick distinct dark cherry with a tug of Belgian spice ( Belgian beers have that spice- coriander perhaps- whichs works really well with the cherry). This would be delicious around the holidays, by the fire- it would even work as an after dinner drink..... a sweet cherry cordial. Really nice Dubbel. A+

GREAT WHITE BEER

135 BOTTLES OF BEER ON THE WALL

 August 19, 2012 (Sunday)
GREAT WHITE BEER
TWELVE FLUID OUNCES
Brewed and Bottled by Lost Coast Brewery and Cafe, Eureka, California

FROM THE LABEL: " This light unfiltered beer is made with two- row malted barley, unmalted wheat, crystal mountain water and ale yeast. It is spiced with coriander and a secret blend of Humboldt herbs that give it a delicate citrusy flavor. Because Great White is unfiltered, natural yeast settlings may appear at the bottom of the bottle."

FROM THE  MOUTH: FLAVORED WHEAT ALE: I can taste a little of the coriander, citrusy with a pronounced pinapple tart. It is a nice soft beer with  a good mouthfeel- nice carbonation. When it warms you can really taste the coriander- which I was not fond of- so drink it cold if you don't like a lot of coriander. Nice beer, but probably wouldn't pick it up again. B

Its robust hop character presents intriguing floral, citrus, and fruity aromas and fresh-hop spiciness.

Each fall, hops reach their peak flavor, bursting with aromatic oils that give ales layers of complex flavor that can only happen at harvest time. For us, fall comes twice a year- once in each hemisphere. This Harvest ale features fresh hops from New Zealand- where fall occurs during our spring. These fresh whole cones are picked, dried, and shipped to the brewery within days of the harvest."

Happy Birthday Whitney Maxey Evers
SAMUEL ADAMS DARK DEPTHS BALTIC IPA
1 PT 6 FL. OZ., 7.6% ALC./VOL.
Brewed and Bottled by The Boston Beer Company, Boston , MA
+++

FROM THE LABEL: "Dark, Fierce and Blustery. Across the cold and blackish waters of the Baltic, the English porter was transformed from a mild ale to a dark and complex lager that confounds definition. Immersed in dark, roasted malts and bold citrus hop character, these big contrasting flavors are brought together with the smoothness of a lager for a brew that's bold, mysterious, and full of flavor. At Samuel Adams we love experimenting. This series of limited edition brews represents some of our favorite small batch creations. Hops: SAAZ, NOBLEHOPS, ZEUS, AHTANUM, SIMCOE. Brewed with lager yeast. Malts: Two-Row Harrington, Metcalfe and Copeland pale malts, Carafa I, Caramel 60 and Munich." ( I may have these spelled wrong. I can't see for sure because the writing is wiggly.)

FROM THE MOUTH: BALTIC PORTER: This tastes like a Porter,so why the IPA title? : Very smooth, full bodied, roasty, very sweet, burnt sugar, toffee, hop bitterness, charred peat/log licking finish. It started off well but it got too sweet for me and I just couldn't drink anymore. B
