NO-LI WINTER WARMER
1 PINT, 6 FL.OZ., 7.5% ALC/VOL
NO-LI Brewhouse LLC, Spokane WA- USA
++1/2

FROM THE LABEL: "Since 1993"

FROM THE MOUTH: WINTER WARMER: If this went down any smoother I would be in serious trouble. As it is I just got graded in my art class and received a B- on my last portrait so...thank God for beer and this beer blog.  NO-LI has turned out some really quality tasting beers and this is just another great sipping beer. Aroma is toffee/butterscotch with some burnt caramel and mild pine. Taste is a smooth glorious mouthfeel of rich toffee, burnt caramel that glides effortlessly into a tangy pine hop finish.  We are talking smoooooth. 'Show me the way to go home ... I'm tired and I want to go to bed ... I had a little drink about an hour ago and it went right to my head. Wherever I may roam ... on land or sea or foam ... you will always hear me singing this song  ... show  -  me -   the -   way -   to -  go -   home.' Thank you Dad for this wonderful memory, wonderful. A++

GUINNESS EXTRA STOUT

Imported by DIAGEO- Guinness USA, Stamford , CT.

FROM THE LABEL:

FROM THE MOUTH:  IRISH DRY STOUT: This is a great beer and everone should try this at least once. Wonderful dark black pour, sweet malty chocolate/coffee burnt aroma and well.....the taste- it's a Guinness. A wonderful mouthfeel of smooth sweet malt with coffee/chocolate undertones followed by a that 'take me back to the bog' dry peat flavor. Starts out smooth ends up licking the log bitter. I don't find this a particularly complex beer- rather straight forward stout. Smooth and very drinkable. A+

FROM THE LABEL:

FROM THE MOUTH: DOPPELBOCK: Now that was a tasty beer! Beautiful rich pour with an aroma of sweet dark fruit and amaretto. Taste follows nose - malty sweet with flavors of dark fruit and a warm toasty glow of heavy alcohol. This is definitely a winter warmer, not something you take to the beach- unless you hit the sand on a dark January night and build a large island fire or after a day on the slopes- but I fear you would pass out before all the stories are told. It's been around since 1634- guess they know what they are doing. Get some! A+

FROM THE LABEL: " It just isn't what we took out, it's what we left in. Handcrafted Pale Ale."

FROM THE MOUTH: AMERICAN PALE ALE (APA): So check out the picture of the pour....I drank the beer out of the bottle (big no no) while chatting on the phone and making dinner then realized I had not taken a picture yet..hehe. Luckily I had noted aroma and taste already before sucking this very nicely blended, easy drinking APA. Aroma is rich with  roasted caramel, some spice, pepper perhaps and resiny hops. Taste is caramel front, not too sweet that flows quickly and smoothly into a spicy resiny hop back. Lots going on with more citrus and floral undertones- a complex little beer for such a plain ordinary label. This is light, clean and extremely refreshing. I understand it is Gluten Free too? I will keep this plain unassuming beer around, actually one of the better APA's I have had so far. A+

FROM THE LABEL: " India Pale Ale."

FROM THE MOUTH: AMERICAN IPA: Nice pour, decent aroma of hops- standard PNW pine and grapefruit but the taste was way too astringent- yuck! Tasted too earthly as in dirt or mold or worse. I took three sips, poured it out and opened up a Guiness. Wasn't a fan of their other beer either. C-

FROM THE MOUTH: " The pour was actually a nice 2 finger foam but I was taking a picture of the cap and down it went; lovely lacing too.  Nice  label, why don't they give us the artists name- they usually put everything else on there. Aroma is orange/honey and pine. Taste is glorious- leave it to Montana to rock out an APA. Great mouthfeel with a bit of alcohol burn smoothly combined with your citrus/mild honey/butterscotch malt front while you eat a pine on the back (not that bitter but it sounded fun to say). Extremely easy to drink. I will be keeping this beer in the fridge. A+

FROM THE MOUTH: AMERICAN APA: Aroma- you guessed it-  hops, and malt, but mostly pine.
Taste is a forward citrus, huge smooth orange, some bread than a slow back of piney bitter  dry hops that stick to the tongue. Veeeery smooth and quite drinkable. A really nice APA that I will keep in my fridge.

FROM THE LABEL: "Washington Beer. Fermenting change in taste since 1994."

FROM THE MOUTH: AMERICAN DOUBLE/ IMPERIAL IPA: Ridiculous and I mean ridiculous amount of carbonation. Aroma is piney hop with some grapefruit. Taste follows nose- classic NW hop character- piney with some citrus - orange and grapefruit. Some toffee caramel sits nicely up front with your NW hops clinging well to the back, not overly bitter- a medium APA. I like this very much and it went down very smoothly- once you got past the ridiculous foam. I will definitely have this again. A

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE
DESCHUTES JUBELALA A FESTIVE WINTER ALE
12 FLUID OUNCES, 6.7% ALC. BY VOL.
Deschutes Brewery, Bend Oregon
++1/2

FROM THE LABEL: " Festive 25th Anniversary winter ale. Best by 04/22/13."

FROM THE MOUTH: WINTER WARMER/ALE: I want to live in the label- yes!?

"The 2012 Jubelale label artwork is a grand amalgamation of 25 years of art. The 2012 label is literally “layered” with meaning –the artwork was created through a complex collaging process by Bend, Oregon artist Kaycee Anseth Townsend. She uses small scraps of paper to create designs, and she comprised the 2012 packaging entirely from pieces of Jubelale labels from years past. Fans may even be able to see a recognizable scrap or two from years gone by inside the incredibly intricate final design.
Anseth Townsend said, “My artistic process of collaging a completely new image from tiny bits of paper often feels like working a puzzle, and using only the past years Jubelale labels as my materials for this project added an extra challenge to the process. It allowed me to really get to know each past label, appreciate the work that went into each one, and also think about how I could repurpose different aspects of that work: sky was used to create snowflakes, snow became light, cabin roofs became trees, a pint glass became a lamppost.”

Aroma is coffee malt sweet and taste follows nose. A wonderful mild roasted coffee/cola malt and at 60 IBU's the roasted hop presence balances perfectly with the malt. A lovely beer on a cold Thanksgiving evening sitting around the fire. A+

FROM THE MOUTH: WEIZENBOCK: Always surprised when I pour and this beautiful dark cola color comes out. Aroma is sweet - nothing distinctive. Taste is soft cola - porter; a flat cola with some coffee/chocolate. A bit watery as though they were not quite sure what they wanted to do. Falls a bit flat. ALASKAN AMBER ALT STYLE ALE

FROM THE LABEL: What you see is what you get. I love this label- really nice art work.

Notes from the beeradvocate:Richly malty and long on the palate, with just enough hop backing to make this beautiful amber colored "alt" style beer notably well balanced.

FROM THE MOUTH: As you can see I am attending a function- business dinner in an area showroom- hence the faucets in the background. Luckily, whew- they had a beer offering that I had not blogged to date, although I have had this tucked in my 'beer blog fridge' all year.  Already been in the showroom for 3 hours putting some displays together ( had one fall on me; I suffered a cut and some swelling) so when the bar opened I was first in line. Sorry, I digress- beer time.  I am thinking to myself now..why am I describing the color and pour when you can see it for yourself, so I will henceforth dismiss talking about that. Aroma- again-sorry , I just drank it tonight so you will have to buy it yourself to and get your nose into it. Taste.... damn good, surprisingly favorable.  It's quite malty, with some ..chocolate flavor? and moves into..some citrus---maybe.  I was nursing some soreness and some fatigue and the old couple at my table were sweet but boring me to death, so the beer offered a home away from home--- anything would have tasted good tonight. NO rating tonight.
