SIERRA NEVADA KELLERWEIS

209 BOTTLES OF BEER ON THE WALL

June 5, 2012 (Tuesday)
SIERRA NEVADA KELLERWEIS HEFEWEIZEN
12 FL. OZ., ALC 4.8% BY VOL.
Brewed and Bottled by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., Chico, CA
++

FROM THE LABEL: "Kellerweis is deeply complex, with flavors reminiscent of ripe banana and spicy clove. This hazy-golden beer glows with suspended yeast crafting a velvety texture. To serve pour two-thirds into a glass, swirl and pour the rest."

FROM THE MOUTH: HEFEWEIZEN:  Spicy, yeasty and tart. Can not taste the banana nor any citrus (a usual Hefe taste) just cloves and heavy yeast- perhaps a tartness from light lemon. Cloves are full-on in the finish, mixing with a bit of hop note, but mostly it is full on attack of cloves and I have learned that I do not like the heavy yeast beers. Not my favorite but for those who like high yeast/clove beers you may want to give this a go, but I will not have it again. C

BELL'S JAVA STOUT
12 FL. OZ., Alc.7.5% by Vol.
Bell's Brewery, Inc., Comstock, MI 49053

++

FROM THE LABEL: "An enchanting beer made from the marriage of a custom blend of fresh-roasted coffee beans with a dark and roasty stout."

FROM THE LABEL: STOUT: A nice soft VERY RICH malty black stout with a strong blend of coffee, sort of like a cold strong espresso, bit of chocolate and the aftertaste is something like a coffee jelly belly on a hop high. I am prone to Stouts so I like this. I have been impressed with Bell's Brewery. Label is creative and fun. A

OLD SCRATCH AMBER LAGER

212 BOTTLES OF BEER ON THE WALL

June 2, 2012
OLD SCRATCH AMBER LAGER
12 FL. OZ., 5.5% ALC/VOL
Brewed by Flying Dog Brewery Fredrick, MD
www.flyingdogbrewery.com
++

FROM THE LABEL: "Tom Walker and his wife loved money more that life, so they surrendered their souls to Old Scratch. And when her liver and lungs were found lying on the forest floor, Tom forever feared a certain rapping at the door. Knock...Knock...Knock. Good People Drink Good Beer-Hunter S Thompson"

FROM THE MOUTH: AMBER LAGER:Unfortunately I was not feeling very well and could could not finish this beer which was a real shame because I was enjoying the taste- it never changed from start to finish. This is certainly quite malty and the hops are very mild, overwhelmed by the malt. It's heavier and much richer in taste than I would've expected. A very casual drinking beer and smooth.  I would keep this in my refrigerator. Not sure what to think about the story...a bit creepy. A+

BELL'S AMBER ALE

213 BOTTLES OF BEER ON THE WALL

June 1, 2012 (Friday)
BELL'S AMBER ALE
12 FL.OZ., Alc.5.8% by Vol.
Brewed and Bottled by Bell's Brewery, Inc., Comstock, MI 49053
www.bellsbeer.com
+++

FROM THE LABEL: "First brewed in 1985 , Bell's Amber Ale embodies the heritage of our brewery and celebrates the nature of the Great Lakes region."

FROM THE MOUTH: AMBER ALE:  Light caramel notes, some citrus and  maybe jasmine?,  capped by a clean bitterness.I love this beer. I had a 'Two Hearted' Bell's draft a few nights ago and it was lovely. I would like to keep a stock of this but unfortunately it is a Michigan beer and I am in Washington. Please check out their website for other very unique beers and ..... a very talented artist designs ALL their labels. This is one of the most beautiful labels I have seen so far- do we buy our beers by the label? Perhaps so, but we continue to buy because of what we find inside- sort of like people- it is the outside that first attracts,  but...  if the inside doesn't disappoint...we keep them in stock.. A++

VICTORY PRIMA PILS

 214 BOTTLES OF BEER ON THE WALL

May 31, 2012 (Thursday)
VICTORY PRIMA PILS
12 FL. OZ
Brewed and Bottled by Victory Brewing Co. at our Sole location in Downingtown, PA
www.victorybeer.com
++++

FROM THE LABEL: "Prima! An exclamation of joy. A recognition of accomplishment. Though it's spoken in German, it's felt in all languages. It's what escaped from our lips as we sampled the first brew of this mighty Pilsner beer. Though we'd been through a few in our years with other breweries, finally with whole flower European hops and fine German malts we had achieved what we'd sought for so long. Prima....an exclamation of Victory. Prost!

FROM THE MOUTH: PILSNER: A bit on the sharp bite side of hops. I would have preferred to taste more of the German malt blended for a smoother taste. The hops clung to your tongue way after your last sip. So if you are a big hop fan who likes their beer hot and burning up with only hops give this a try. Probably won't select this beer again although by the end it was going down pretty well, probably because my mouth was numb! B+

FROM THE STORE: Belmont Beverage in South Bend, Indiana. Will be here till Tuesday so apologize for the late posts and fuzzy or dark photos. My family had to decide end care for my Mother yesterday so keep us in your thoughts- life is uncertain- don't sip
